finally some mobile signal!

Met Andy at Llandovery last Friday, had some tough days over trackless moorland, with a variety of camping spots and one night in a bothy.

Approaching Dinas Middwwy today, stopping at a hostel in Dolgellau tomorrow so will add more elaborate details then.

Have you ever noticed, when you approach nervous sheep they always act in one of the following ways;

1. Lambs near their mothers will immediately run to them and start suckling, regardless of if they happen to be in the middle of an A road
2. older ewes will fix you with a steely glare, stand their ground, and then urinate in a very deliberate manner
3. or panic and run away, and if in an enclosed space, run head first into a fence/wall/gate with hilarious results (always cheers me up)

so whilst I'm on the home stretch for the day I keep composing really eloquent blog entries in my head; but by the time I've had dinner etc I'm too tired to do more than punch out a couple of sentences...

so I got to the hostel at abergavenny, which was essentially a pub which had taken advantage of the YHA closing by sticking dome bunkbeds in their spare rooms.
still, it was better than being out in the rain, which on Sunday morning was monotonous.
At 2pm the cycle tourists decided that their live satellite imagery showed a s
window of opportunity and dashed off.
I flip flopped in to the town centre and had a look at the castle and bought a frozen pizza for dinner, not realising that the hostel kitchen didn't have an oven!
But the remainder of the day turned out to be pretty great.

Monday. Feeling much better for the day off, I set out to cover the 4 miles (as the crow flies) to Crickhowell.
Having lost a day I was having to truncate the circuit of the Black Mountains ridge, including Lord Hereford's Knob, so I guess a circumcision!
I still wanted to climb some peaks, and with more sun than rain, got rewarded with some brilliant panoramic views.
So I covered about 15 miles and 1000m of ascent, before arriving in the village and checking to see where the bunkhouse actually was.
It wasn't in the village.
It was 2 miles away up another big hill.
The only blessing was that it was in the right direction in terms of the next days route!

Rather annoyingly, my GPS is broken so no map updates and no foggy moorland navigational cheating...
